Bird-feed.com exists because backyard bird feeding is one of the most popular hobbies in America, and most of what’s written about it online is either too generic, too academic, or too obviously written by someone who has never stood in front of a feeder wondering why nothing is showing up.
What This Site Is
Bird-feed.com is a site about one thing: feeding wild birds in your backyard. Not birding trips, not ornithology, not pet birds. Just feeders, seed, and the everyday practice of getting wild birds to show up and stay.
The scope is narrow on purpose. A narrow scope means every article can go deeper, be more specific, and actually be useful instead of covering everything at surface level.
How This Site Works
When a claim comes from research or an external source, it is linked. When it comes from direct experience, that is said too.
No invented statistics, no made-up quotes, no filler advice copied from other sites to pad word count.
If something varies by region, season, or setup, that is said plainly. One-size-fits-all advice is usually wrong.
Every article stays within what this site is actually about. No drift into unrelated topics to chase traffic.
Who Is Behind It
Bird-feed.com is written by Blake Foster, a former Wild Birds Unlimited store manager with fifteen years of direct experience helping backyard birders. He started this site after retiring from retail because he missed those conversations, and because the questions people were asking online were the same ones he had answered thousands of times in the store. The answers they were finding were vague, incomplete, or just wrong.

There is something quietly generous about the bird feeding community. People who have spent years figuring out why the cardinals stopped coming, or which nyjer seed actually works, tend to share what they learned. Not for recognition. Just because it is useful to someone else.
This site would not exist without that generosity. Fifteen years of those conversations is what this site is made of.
