About Blake
For fifteen years, Blake Foster managed a Wild Birds Unlimited store where the questions were almost always the same: why aren't the birds coming, what seed actually works, how do I stop the squirrels. He answered those questions hundreds of times a week, from people who were genuinely frustrated and genuinely curious. After a while, he started to notice the patterns that no article online seemed to cover.
He retired from retail in 2020. The feeders in his backyard stayed. So did the questions, now coming from friends and neighbors instead of customers. This site is where he puts the answers.
What This Site Is
Bird-feed.com covers one thing: feeding wild birds in your backyard. Not birding trips. Not pet birds. Not ornithology. Just feeders, seed, and getting birds to actually show up and stay.
The advice here comes from what Blake saw work and fail over fifteen years, not from copying what other sites say. When research or a source is used, it is cited. When something depends on your situation, that is said too. Nothing is padded to fill space.
